An Appeal for the conduct of State level intercollegiate Kabaddi Tournament (Men)

An Appeal for the conduct of State level intercollegiate Kabaddi Tournament (Men)

Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Coimbatore, a vast complex of 14 educational service wings, commenced its activities in 1930 with the blessings of Bhagavan Sri Ramakrishna. Started by Sri T.S. Avinashilingam, the first Educational Minister of Tamil Nadu, Vidyalaya today caters to the educational needs of around 7000 students from L.K.G. to Ph.D. levels. Vidyalaya imparts quality education to a predominantly rural population.

Besides education, Vidyalaya has been promoting sports activities and encouraging sports aspirants, both students and common public, by conducting a number of competitions at district-level and state-level. It is well known that Kabaddi is a popular traditional game commonly played by rural people and India achieved laurels by winning gold medals in all the Asian games.

In our efforts to further popularize and promote Kabaddi among the youth, we have planned to organize a State-level Inter-collegiate Kabaddi Tournament every year under the title “Sister Nivedita Rolling Trophy”. In line with Pro Kabaddi, matches will be conducted on synthetic mats at our indoor wooden courts. In order to encourage the participating players, an amount of Rs. 50,000/- has been allocated towards prize money and food for the semifinalists. An amount of Rs.2 lakhs has been estimated for conducting the tournament.

In this connection, Vidyalaya appeals to well wishers, philanthropists and promoters of the game to financially support us in conducting the tournament by their generous donations. Needless to say, such wholehearted sponsorship will greatly help us in identifying and nurturing young talent from even rural backgrounds besides promoting this sport which has a promising future in India. We invite you all to join us in our efforts to encourage and inspire more number of youth to actively participate in the game and thereby boost up the spirit of kabaddi in India.

Yours in the Lord

Swami Garishthananda,
