All parents around the world wish for their children to be born with good health, intelligence and mental clarity. While education and skill development typically begin after birth, ancient Indian scriptures emphasise that a child’s growth starts in the womb itself. Modern scientific research supports this idea, revealing that a baby can absorb emotions, thoughts, and sounds from the mother during pregnancy. This ancient practice, known as Garbha Samskaram, plays a crucial role in shaping a child’s mind, emotions and personality from the prenatal stage. It fosters intellectual growth, emotional stability, and moral strength even before birth. Indian epics and scriptures offer remarkable examples, such as Abhimanyu (Mahabharata), Madalasa (Markandeya Purana), and Prahlada (Vishnu Purana), who gained knowledge and enlightenment while still in the womb. By engaging in meditation, mantra chanting, positive thinking and healthy dietary habits, expectant mothers can create a nurturing environment for their child’s well-being. Garbha Samskaram plays a vital role in ensuring that children grow up to be mentally strong, spiritually aware, and socially responsible individuals.
Recognizing its significance, Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Coimbatore, has introduced the Garbha Samskaram programme to help future generations cultivate wisdom, devotion and patriotism right from the earliest stages of life.
