In commemoration of 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s historic speech at the world Parliament of Religions in Chicago, Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Coimbatore offers various programmes for school & college students, youths and persons with disabilities.The State Level Tournaments in Adapted Sports is one among them, which includes Paraplegic Cricket, Para Sitting Volleyball, Volleyball for Visually Impaired and Football for Intellectually Challenged.
Adapted Sports and Games provide opportunities for persons with disabilities to improve their functional abilities and live in an inclusive setup. The sports participation meet the personal needs of persons with disabilities and inculcate self confidence, physical fitness, talent identification and performance enhancement at national and international level.
Considering the importance of adapted sports, Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya has organized four tournaments in adapted sports for RKMV Trophy from 06th to 08th December 2018. As many as 400 players of various disabilities from various districts of Tamilnadu participated in the tournament.
RKMV Trophy, State Level Tournaments in Adapted Sports Namely Volleyball for Visual Impaired, Paraplegic Cricket, Para Sitting Volleyball, Football for Intellectually Challenged was hosted from 6 to 8 December 2018 at Vidyalaya Indoor Stadium.
Paraplegic cricket and Para sitting volleyball are played by persons who have partial or complete paralysis of the lower half of the body and they will play by sitting only. Totally 7 districts participated in cricket and volleyball.
Volleyball for visually impaired is played by persons who have partial vision loss and completely blind. In this competition, two partially vision loss and four completely blind players should be in a team. Totally 7 districts participated.
Football for Intellectually Challenged is played by persons who have significant limitations both in intellectual functioning and in adaptive behavior, especially mild category. Totally 8 teams participated.
