131st Swami Vivekananda’s Chicago Address Year – Universal Brotherhood Day: Suryanamaskar Yogathon
On the occasion of the 131st anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s historic Chicago Address and in celebration of Universal Brotherhood Day, Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya Maruthi College of Physical Education organized a grand event titled the ‘Yoga World Record Suryanamaskar Yogathon’ on September 11, 2024. This remarkable event witnessed the participation of 1463 students from various institutions of the Vidyalaya, achieving a significant milestone by setting a new Yoga World Record.
The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Swami Garishthananda Maharaj, Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya Institutions, who presided over the function, hoisted the National Flag, and honored the officials with mementoes. Swami Virahananda Maharaj, Secretary of Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya Maruthi College of Physical Education, hoisted the Vidyalaya Flag. The special guest for the event was Sri U. Manickam, a renowned Yogacharya, who inspired the participants with his words.
The key highlight of the day was the performance of 108 rounds of Suryanamaskar by 1463 students from the Vidyalaya, marking a new yoga world record. The event was certified by the World Sports Yoga Federation, Kowloon, Hong Kong, which presented the prestigious Yoga World Records Certificate to the college. Additionally, the college was honored with the Institution of Excellence Award for its commendable efforts in propagating yoga among rural students.

The event commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. T. Jayabal, Principal of the college, and concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. T. Thangamani, Assistant Professor. This historic occasion not only celebrated the legacy of Swami Vivekananda but also highlighted the importance of yoga in fostering physical and mental well-being, especially among rural students.
Through this event, the Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya Maruthi College of Physical Education has set a high benchmark in yoga education and continues to serve as a beacon of excellence in promoting health and spirituality.
