Swami Vivekananda’s Chicago Address Recitation Competitions

Universal Brotherhood Day:

Swami Vivekananda’s historical speech at the Parliament of Religions at Chicago on 11th September 1893 is observed as Universal Brotherhood Day every year around the world. In his first address he started his speech as “Sisters and Brothers of America”. A Great wave of enthusiasm went through the audience. They rose to their feet with shouts of applause continuously for a 2 minutes.  In his speech he propagated religious tolerance and harmony. The American Press praised Swami Vivekananda as “Cyclonic Monk from India” and highlighted his lofty ideals, which not only kept the name and fame of Swami Vivekananda, but also of India and Hindu Dharma on top of the world.  His speech at the Chicago Parliament of Religions were key in putting India and Sanatana Dharma on global map, introducing India to the West and that thrashed the false image webbed by westerners about India and Sanatana Dharma.

Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya conducted recitation competitions on 10th September 2022 at intra and inter-institutional level on the occasion of Swami Vivekananda’s Chicago address anniversary. Prizes were distributed to the winners in the category levels – High School, Higher Secondary & Post-Matric and College in both English and Tamil medium. Monks, Staff members, students and devotees attended the celebration.
